#15 Web 2.0 and its effect on the library

According to this article librarians need to prepare their libraries for the current shift in technology that is happening. There are three icebergs that may hinder the success of librarians: 1) keeping a collection "just in case" it is needed; 2) not teaching patrons how to use technology; 3) focus on bringing services to patrons instead of expecting patrons to seek us out.

How to be a librarian 2.0:

• plan for your users
• embrace web 2.0 tools
• question the necessity of new technology
• evolve and change as needed
• plan for the future but don't take too long to decide
• use popular web features to promote the library- google, MySpace, Flickr
